Free Ornament Marbling Make-and-Take Workshop

When
-

You've probably seen (or tried) hydro-dipping with spray paints or nail polish — come explore traditional marbling using water-based paints.

Marbling as an art form is more than a thousand years old — in ancient Japan, it was called "floating ink." You'll be suspending pigments onto the surface of a mixture called a "size" (a mixture of seaweed extract and water). Then you'll use tools like skewers and rakes to transform those pools into intricate traditional or freestyle patterns.

Participants will each get to dip four holiday ornaments and a few sheets of paper. Additional items will be available for fun experimentation — and each participant can bring one small 3D item to dip.

Registered participants will get an email with a list of suggested videos to watch before coming to class. The videos will give everyone an idea of how to float, pattern, and dip — as well as what additional items dip well.
