The Public Art Advisory Committee is excited to launch a new series of rotating art exhibits at the Mary Alice Warren Community Center!
Three exhibits will be featured each year, each highlighting the work of a different local artist. Each exhibit will host multiple works displayed throughout the Community Center for approximately three months.
Residents are encouraged to visit the Community Center and enjoy the artwork during public hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Maria Senkel Exhibit
The first exhibit in this series is by artist Maria Senkel.
Artist Talk
July 8, 2026, 4:30-5 p.m.
The featured artist will guide attendees through the exhibit and share the stories and creative processes behind their work during a 30-minute Artist Talk, hosted by the Public Art Advisory Committee.
About the Artist
Maria Senkel is a fantasy artist, illustrator, and sculptor with over 15 years of professional experience, based in Lewisville, North Carolina. She creates intricate worlds through drawing, painting, carving, building, and writing, working in watercolor, ink, graphite, acrylic, paper, clay, wood, and bronze. Her practice includes detailed illustrations, expressive paintings, hand-carved sculptures, paper pop-ups, and automata, all driven by storytelling, satire, humor, moral lessons, and playful innuendos.
Her work has been exhibited throughout the East Coast, received numerous awards, featured in multiple publications, and shown by galleries in North Carolina. She has also received several grants from the Arts & Science Council of North Carolina.
Rooted in myths, legends, and the whimsy of everyday life, her art celebrates meticulous craftsmanship and speaks to the inner child in all of us while remaining suitable for audiences of every age.
