James Ayers was selected unanimously by the Lewisville Town Council to serve as the next Town Manager, and will start in his new position on November 1. Ayers has served in the public sector since 2008, including roles as Town Manager (Manteo, NC), Assistant Town Manager and Director of Engineering & Public Works (Bluffton, SC), and Department Director (Foothills Regional Commission and City of Asheville, NC). Prior to that, Ayers worked in private industry, including more than 15 years in real estate development and construction project management.
Ayers earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University, with a double major in engineering science and economics. He also has a Master of Science degree in administration from Central Michigan University. Ayers is a graduate of the Municipal & County Administration program and the Public Executive Leadership Academy at the School of Government at UNC-Chapel Hill, the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia, and the International City/County Management Association’s Leadership ICMA program. Ayers also holds the designation as an ICMA Credentialed Manager (ICMA-CM) from the International City/County Management Association.
